Setting goals, putting those dreams hopes and plans on paper, discovering something to work together on as a team. These were our blueprints to keeping our marriage healthy, growing and purpose driven. Couples discover grow their bonds, strengthen resolves in diverse ways, ours just happened to be kayaking.
In 2019 after years of putting it off until next year, we finally decided this was the time to set aside all doubts, fears and procrastination. We started to focuses and formulate a plan in order combine our love of writing, fitness, entrepreneurship and kayaking Into a business. Transferring professional skills in sales, customer service, organizational management, teaching and marketing, was the easy part. The struggle was believing we could accomplish our goal.
We'd been kayaking for four years at this point, had even taken training in kayaking safety and touring. We didn't feel as if we knew enough, but it was a feeling which wasn't going to pass anytime soon. Therefore instead of reading and studying more books on building a successful business or how to run a profitable kayaking rental and touring company. I took the money my wife and I had saved for to start our entrepreneurship journey and purchased twenty kayaks, twenty personal floatation devices and twenty sets of paddles along with safety helmets. We agonized over our diminished savings along with our lack of experience in running our own business, but in the end we gave birth to Urban kayaking...the helpless and needy newborn which we discovered needed much more attention and care than either of us could have imagined.
Urban kayaking hasn't come into maturity as of yet, but it's up and running.... or rather gliding through waters... ready for the next growth and adventure.

The Caribbean

2013 The journey begins

Crossing the sand together

My wife and I were married on an island, holding hands staring into one another's dreamy and nervous eyes. Barefoot on soft brownish sun baked sand, our toes tingling in course soft granules. Guest whispering how beautiful a bride and how handsome a groom, their praises, our vows hushed by waves crashing into shorelines. Crystal blue Caribbean waters providing beauty, mystery, a constant tide, high's and low's, foreshadowing ups and downs within a marriage newly weds had no idea would come. The ebb's and flows of relationships are similar to that which a sailor has with the sea. Surface calmness and reflective beauty, which had drawn you in, engulfs your senses. Love pulls both men and women together- much like the sight of endless blue ocean waters calling to a sailor. No matter how keen or trained your senses, your ability to navigate will be determine only when the storm comes. When your compass. is your bond, how well you follow directions of one another's hearts will determine if you will traverse the storms. Finally, when waves rock steady...calmness.

2014- Our one year anniversary. We decided to takes turns planning each anniversary...I went first. My outdoorsy wife had talked about kayaking since 2010; so I decided this trip would be the perfect gift. In a tandem kayak we learned to work together to paddle through Salt River in Frederiksted, St. Croix. This experience is where were bitten by the kayaking bug.

Water can be smooth, relaxing, and serene, but it can also be temperamental, angry, and relentless. Does this remind you of something- or should I say SOMEONE(?)

Living on an Island for the first three years of our marriage defiantly inspired us to discover ways to be nearer to the water. St. Croix, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands had been my wife's home as a young lady and adult. She'd return several years before our union and with her enthusiasm about island life, I relocated from Atlanta to a life of an islander.
2014 Anniversary on Heart of the Caribbean. We enjoyed sailing around with a wonderful captain and his crew. Where we were served a delicious five course meal.
